I am delighted to announce that Craig Holloway has been co-opted to the VAADA Board as our newest Director. Craig is a proud Yorta Yorta man and a strong advocate for First Nations people, having spent over 25 years working in AOD and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.
Craig is currently the Manager of the Office of the Executive at the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service and has worked extensively in the community-controlled health sector. Nationally recognised, he has received multiple awards, including the APSAD First Peoples Award in 2023. Craig is also an Adjunct Professor at La Trobe University, a member of the ADRIA Independent Evaluation Panel, and an active contributor to Rainbow Mob at the Midsumma Festival.
VAADA recognises the disproportionate impact of alcohol and other drugs on First Nations people as a result of colonisation and inter-generational trauma. It is vital that we listen to First Nations voices at all levels in our sector. Craig’s appointment to the Board is an important step towards ensuring that VAADA as the peak body for AOD services in Victoria, is truly representative of our members and the communities we serve. Craig brings a vast amount of experience as a leader, an AOD worker, and as a First Nations person to his new role at VAADA.
Craig said: “Being able to join the VAADA Board is an honour and privilege. Having worked with VAADA for over 10 years, it’s refreshing to not only be an add-on guest to the table but also to be a valued member at the table. For too long, my Community have been a guest at too many tables. Where our voice isn’t really valued or listened to. I see this as an opportunity to make meaningful change for all my Communities across the state”.
