Single session family consultation for the youth AOD workforce

For too long, the youth AOD sector has operated within a model of individual treatment episodes, limiting our scope to engage family and community supports. In response, YSAS partnered with The Bouverie Centre to develop a specialist module for Single Session Family Consultation (SSFC) adapting an existing family engagement model. The module welcomes families, caregivers and community members into a young person’s AOD treatment while recognising the unique features of servicing hard to reach populations.

The module was informed by seeking ‘wise words’ from a community of practice, and the experience of parents and caregivers. Video from the module simulating a family meeting, will highlight how SSFC can make family work accessible for youth workers. We will also present case studies of the use of SSFC from a newly formed Youth AOD Family Lead role in regional Victoria.
